VHT Classic 6 Tube Guitar Amplifier

Harmony-Central–VHT announces the release of the Classic 6, a simple, low-wattage amp with a big sound. The Classic 6 has been carefully designed and tested in VHT’s Brisbane, CA workshop.
The design of the Classic 6 was inspired by stories of famous records that were recorded with a low-wattage single-ended amp that sounded gigantic. The Classic 6 is designed for players who want a sound that they can make their own. With this in mind, VHT designed the Classic 6 with a 12″ VHT Special Design speaker. The amp sounds great with the stock speaker, but VHT engineers based the design on the assumption that 12″ speakers are easiest to find, which allows for a broad range of customization options to reflect the player’s personal taste. The signal path is uncluttered and simple, and the output transformer was designed so that the amp could be turned up loudly without getting fried. Read more

Harmony-Central–VHT announces the release of the Lead 40, a powerful 2-channel all-tube amp perfect for both classic and modern overdriven tube tones. The Lead 40 has been carefully designed and tested in VHT’s Brisbane, CA workshop.
The Lead 40 is a powerful 40 Watt RMS 2-channel amp with separate Clean and Overdrive channels. It has reverb and a master volume. Both channels have a shared EQ. VHT engineers have carefully voiced both channels so that they can effectively share the EQ. When switching channels, the frequency response is unaffected, so no EQ adjustment should be required when channel switching. Read more
Guitar Amps 101 – Choosing the right Guitar Amp
June 10, 2009 by Mike O'Cull · 2 Comments
Guitars are simple, right? Most of us know what we like, which family tree (Leo or Orville) our axe of choice descends from, and all of that. Amps, however, are another matter, entirely. There are more types of guitar amplifiers available today than ever before and, to the uninitiated, picking the proper amp to suit our musical and financial needs can seem like a crapshoot. Read more
Guitar Amps 101 – Speakers: Does Size Really Matter?
June 3, 2009 by Mike O'Cull · Leave a Comment
Many different types of speakers have been used over the years to amplify electric guitars. The most common are speakers with 10-inch and 12-inch measurements. Generally speaking (pun intended), a smaller speaker produces more top end, or treble, than a larger one. Thus, an amp outfitted with 10’s usually has a brighter, tighter sound and the same amp with 12’s will be darker sounding. Read more
Guitar Amps 101 – Tube or Solid State Amps?
June 1, 2009 by Chaz · 3 Comments
There is always a lot of discussion in guitar amp circles about tube amps vs. solid state amps. Traditionalists and tone snobs always lean towards tube amps, as they are what produced the great tones of yester-year that inspired most of us to play guitar in the first place and the warm, natural sound that they produce have become what the electric guitar is all about to many people. Egnater MOD 50 Guitar Amplifier

For many guitarists, collecting amps and pedals is more than just a hobby, it is most likely an obsession. A three by two foot area of your floor filled with assorted stompboxes, combo amps stacked on top of half-stacks with a/b/y splitters running cables to every single amp input, and all of those running to your mixer. It’s a beautiful site.
Unless you happen to be the wife of a guitarist, in which case it looks more like a fire hazard.
So how do you solve the dilemma of getting a wide assortment of amplifier tones without having to pile amplifiers in the corner of your living room (which is beginning to resemble Van Halen’s stage rig that has been hit by a tornado…or turned into the cat’s personal scratching post)?
First things first: ditch the cat. It’s destroying your amps and cables. And it smells worse than your drummer, Dave.
Second, you might want to check out the MOD 50 guitar amplifier from Egnater.
Egnater is a boutique amplifier company that makes some excellent sounding gear up in the not-so-exotic state of Michigan. The Egnater MOD 50 has one feature that is outstanding in the area of boutique amplifiers: the ability to use different modules to generate different amp tones.
————————————————————
First off, the MOD 50 is a full-featured amp that comes in either combo or head varieties, both of which allow you to run two different amp modules and give you the ability to switch between the two using a footswitch. In addition, each module has two separate channels, essentially giving you a four-channel amp (that conveniently only takes up the space of one amp, which may or may not make your wife cheer). The amp features two buffered effects loops that can be used together or separately, and a power switch that gives you three modes: standby, power (pushes the full 50 watts), and low power (which backs the amp down to 20 watts for smaller venues/recording/bedroom jamming). The MOD 50 is also a tube-driven amp, giving you a more natural warmth and clarity (which is a good thing).
There are currently nine different modules available for the MOD 50 amp (and also the M4 rack mounted preamp), giving you sound options that range from vintage California and classic British all the way up to dual-rectified monstrosities that, according to their website, are “not safe to be alone with your girlfriend”.
The Egnater MOD 50 provides just enough variety to satisfy your inner tone-freak while being almost pleasing to your wife (by reducing the amount of ‘clutter’ in your living room). There’s nothing like having a happy wife AND a great sounding amp. http://www.egnater.com
