man who stole guitarNewark police are asking the public’s help in identifying the man who stole a $2,000 guitar last month from the Deer Park Tavern.

Surveillance footage was released by police on Friday (5-08-09).

A band was performing at the tavern April 24, and the guitar was discovered missing from the second-floor stage about 1:25 a.m. as band members packed their equipment, said Lt. Brian Henry, a Newark police spokesman.

The guitar is an XOX Audio Tools custom electric guitar kept in a black soft-sided case.

The guitar is valued at $2,000.

The bar’s surveillance system captured a man carrying a guitar over his shoulder as he was leaving the tavern, Henry said.

The man is described as about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds with braided hair that fell below his collar.
