RATM Protest After Show Gets Shut Down
September 5, 2008 by Chazders
Rage Against The Machine was scheduled to perform in Minnesota on September 2nd. The gig was cancelled due to the band allegedly not having the proper permits.
Once the word spread through the crowd, that the show had been cancelled, the crowd began to chant “The Star Spangled Banner” and the famous final lines of the band’s hit “Killing In The Name.” After the news of the show being cancelled, band members Zach De La Rocha and Tom Morello appeared in the front of crowd. Both members began speaking and singing acapella versions of “Bulls On Parade” and “Killing In The Name” with a megaphone.
Then Rocha and Morello led the crowd towards Xcel Energy Center in Minnesota, where the Republican Party Convention is being held. The march created more protests along the way to the center.
According to the law enforcement in Minnesota, the reason the concert was cancelled was due to lack of permits and the arrived too close to curfew of 7 p.m.
