Jackson Adrian Smith model
December 19, 2008 by Chaz
With the ongoing history that is being built between Iron Maiden’s Axeman Adrian Smith and Jackson Guitars, it’s no surprise that the two are teaming up to populate Adrian Smith’s Signature Custom Superstrat. As listed on Jackson Guitar’s site, it states that the following -
“NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) titan Iron Maiden is one of the most successful and influential metal bands of all time, thanks in no small measure to the molten yet melodic guitar work of Adrian Smith. With timeless songwriting craft and peerless live performances, Maiden continues to record and tour, charting all over the world and selling out stadiums in any country with electricity. Based on his original late ’80s Custom Shop guitar, Smith’s signature model boasts supreme Jackson® tone, playability, versatility and classic good looks”
Here’s a little history behind the Adrian Smith Custom Model. After Iron Maiden’s show in Athens on August 2nd 2008 (Saturday night), Adrian’s Custom prototype Jackson Superstrat was stolen. That particular guitar was a one of kind exclusive for Adrian Smith himself. Since the Jackson Adrian Smith model will be released and circulated to the general public, it’ll be much harder for the prototype and the thief to be found.
With that said, Jackson didn’t release the specs of the factory model just yet, so we are assuming it will have the similar specs as the prototype, which isn’t no slouch of it’s own.

DESCRIPTION of JACKSON ADRIAN SMITH PROTOTYPE:
All we can really tell you at this point is it’s a Strat style guitar with a Floyd Rose tremolo system, a humbucker in the bridge position and a Fender style headstock. It appears the guitar has an Ebony fretboard as well.
Also announced here on Gear-Vault, Fender are releasing a Dave Murray Signature. More to come as Gear-Vault learns more!

bad news.
i just got a call from a sam ash who’d just gotten off the line with fender, and the jackson is listing at $2799, and they say minimum advertised price is going to be $1999, and the final selling price is going to be probably closer to the list than for the advertised; 20% down, and you ‘might’ get it by may.
it doesn’t look like fmic is worried about the difference in the construction between a neckthrough sl1 and a bolt-on strat, and the difference in the cost between the two.
maybe sam ash just talked me out of it…
Ouch! Well it’s going to be a sweet guitar none-the-less. Let us know if you reconsider and decide to snag one up!
